Planning trip in May to WDW for first time. Having hard time deciding to stay on or off disney resort. My inlaws, husband, and kids(4,3, and 6mo). Found great afforable hotel off site (Caribe)for a 2br villa, but is it worth the price to stay at disney?

Hi Dawn!  I am a HUGE fan of staying on Disney property for a Walt Disney World vacation!  I have never talked to anyone who regrets doing this but I have talked with those that have stayed off property that have regretted that choice.

The price of the on property resorts may indeed be a bit more but you need to understand what you get for the added dollar.  We NEVER rent a car when taking a Disney vacation so that cost is deleted from the total. We use the Magical Express from the airport and then the bus system to get to all the spots we need to go.  Although some say the buses are slow with wait times I have found that parking a car in the lots to be more annoying with long walks and waits for trams.

One of the great benefits you can use when staying in a Disney resort is the extra magic hours at the parks. This is offered only to resort guests and the parks either open up early or stay open a few hours later.  It is a super time to hit those attractions with normally long lines during the busy daytime hours.  It is cooler and always magical to be in the parks after dark!

Check for availability for many of the Disney villas on property or the Family suite at the All Star resort or even just requesting connecting rooms for the other resorts.  Keep watching for specials that Disney might offer for 2010 as well.
