I am planning a trip for this May for myself, my 5 year old, and my parents. We want to stay inside Disney, and close to things that my 5yo will enjoy. What would be our best option (We love Princesses, Mickey, and Minnie)?

Hi Amy!  I strongly suggest you and your family stay in a Disney resort for your vacation. The benefits are great and you will find that magic no matter which one you choose.  Each resort has a special theme and the decor will be extensive with Disney remembering just about every detail to make it wonderful.

The resorts that are closest to the parks are your deluxe ones and they will also be the most expensive.  From this group I would suggest the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian.

The moderate resorts are great and often fit better into your budget although they are not within walking distance to any park.  You will need to use the Disney bus or boat transportation which is complementary to resort guests.  My favorites in this category are the Port Orleans French Quarter and the Coronado Springs but the Caribbean Beach is very popular too with families.  If you want a bit of a rustic atmosphere I suggest the cabins at Fort Wilderness. This is a great place to cut back costs as each cabin has a full kitchen where you can prepare your own meals when needed.

My suggestion for the value resorts is the Pop Century.  It can tend not to have quite as many groups staying there.  The value resorts are fun and magical too but they will have less amenities such as water recreation and restaurants.  They are quite large and spread out and often your room will be far from the main lobby and bus areas.  But they are still a great way to live the magic and stay within the Disney property.
