We are planning a trip in June 2014. We have 3 kids...7, 6, and 4. Is it really worth getting a dining plan, i mean are we actually going to save any money as opposed to just paying out of pocket while we're in the parks, or going out to dinner, etc?

    Hi Kathryn,

Thanks for stopping by with your important question. Planning your resort and dining options are among some of the most important decisions you'll make. Obviously, this question can be debated both ways. As for me and my family, we rarely get the dining plan. I still have young kids who tend to have smaller appetites and we prefer that our kids not eat dessert with all of their meals, therefore the dining plan isn't much of a value for us. However, for other families, the dining plan is the way to go, saving lots of money in the budget.

Another thing to consider are your family's eating habits and what kinds of meals you plan to eat, quick service, buffet or table service a la carte. My two youngest often share a meal when we eat at quick service restaurants, thus saving us money there. However, if you plan to eat at several of the a la carte table service restaurants, it could save you money on some of the fancier dishes especially if you get appetizers and desserts.

Lastly, if you are hoping to go to some of the signature dining restaurants or dinner shows, keep in mind that these locations often require two dining credits.

I hope this helped you get some perspective in order to make an informed decision. Again, while it may not be the best choice for my family, many guests find it to be super budget friendly and convenient.

    Happy planning,
