Hiya, Sandra!
As another parent on children on the Autism Spectrum, I am sure you will have an
Incredible time visiting the Disneyland Resort with your
young Mouseketeer. The Disneyland Resort strives to provide necessary accommodations for
guests with disabilities, including guests with
cognitive disabilities. Due to circumstances unique to each guest, it is necessary to consult individually with a cast member at the main Guest Relations locations in order to access certain accommodations. Guests with more severe needs that prevent waiting in a conventional queue may require enrollment in the Disability Access Service. The helpful Guest Relations Cast Members are happy to help plan for an enjoyable visit to the Disneyland Resort. In Disneyland Park, start your visit off at City Hall on Main Street, U.S.A. In Disney California Adventure Park, head over to Chamber of Commerce on Buena Vista Street.
As our children with autism are relatively high-functioning, we found that planning ahead and employing creative coping strategies has helped to work with their specific sensory and social needs. Our children happen to cope well if they have a favorite snack or activity available, which helps them relax and stay content while waiting in attraction lines. For times when the activity levels in the parks overwhelm their senses, we find that simply finding a quiet place to rest helps a lot. One of our favorite spots is the Disney Animation Building in Disney California Adventure Park.
Have a magical time, Sandra
