Planning 5th trip July 18-24 (1st in summer) with husband and 3 sons (9, 13, 16). Staying at BC. Also plan to go to both water parks and Downtown Disney. I understand parks will be crowded and HOT. Any tips or suggestions to make the most of our vacation?

    Hi Melissa,

My family usually goes to Disney at least once each summer.  In fact, we are going to be at Disney the same week as you this year!  You are correct that the parks tend to be crowded and the weather is warm, well, ok, hot!  However, like my family, I'm guessing you will have a magical trip.  Some of my favorite tips for beating the heat include visiting the parks early in the morning (use extra magic morning hours where possible) and in the evening (parks tend to stay open later during peak summer months).  Sandwich a visit to your resort for a midday swim, lunch or siesta in between park visits, when the sun is high and the parks are most crowded.  My sons love spending hot summer days at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.  There are attractions for thrill seekers of all levels (including me, who prefers and inner tube and a lazy river!)  It's nearly impossible to be hot when you are soaking wet!  We also like to visit DisneyQuest during warm afternoons.  This interactive, virtual theme park is indoors and tends to be a huge hit with kids of all ages!  We've also gone to the movies at Downtown Disney on summer afternoons.  My kids want to see Toy Story 3 on our upcoming trip (for the fourth time!)  Staying hydrated is very important, especially during the summer.  I like to carry a soft, portable cooler bag into the parks with drinks and snacks for my family.  I stick a wet wash cloth inside a zip-top bag for each kid.  They help to keep my kids cool (and clean up any melted Mickey ice cream bars.)

I hope some of my tips help you enjoy a wonderful vacation!
