We are planning a trip with 2 grandsons (ages 8 and almost 5) in February 2019. There will be 9 adults with as well. I am having some trouble trying to figure out what tickets to buy. Some want to go to things off of Disney and others want just Disney.

    Hi Naomi,

Thanks for visiting Disney Parks Moms Panel. Walt Disney World is always fun, and even more so with family and friends!

While I don't know all your plan details, some of the specifics might open up options for you. For example, are you buying tickets for the whole group? How many days are you staying? Are you staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel? If you take these questions into consideration, you'll find you have lots of options.

The first tip I'll share is about date-based ticketing. When you purchase tickets online, you use the interactive calendar to choose the first day of your ticket. Your tickets will be valid for a specific number of days. For example, if you buy a 6-day ticket for 1 park per day, your ticket would be valid for any 6 days within 9 days beginning on your start date. This gives you flexibility for park days. You can also add a Flexible Dates Option so that you don't have to choose a start date, and you have 14 days to use your tickets from the day you first use them. Adding a Park Hopper Option gives you even more flexibility in allowing admission to visit multiple theme parks on the same day.

There are lots of exciting experiences outside the parks. Perhaps on the days when others explore their own interests, you can visit Disney Springs for all its shopping, entertainment, and dining. Disney's BoardWalk is another fun destination. You can also enjoy fun at Winter Summerland Miniature Golf.

My suggestion is to buy tickets for the number of days you want to visit theme parks so you can make FastPass+ selections, and then enjoy magic outside the parks on the days when others want to do their own exploring.

    Enjoy your Disney!

The playful and creative optimism of all things Disney has enthralled me since I was a kid. I loved watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" on Sunday nights, seeing all the live-action and animated classics in theaters, and — of course — visiting "The Most Magical Place on Earth" for the first time 45 years ago. These days, the big kid in me still loves to play Disney. As a long-time Disney destinations vacationer, I'm looking forward to helping you play Disney starting here at planDisney!
