I am planning a trip with grandkids and have limited mobility. They are getting the genie but I won't be able to ride some ridesdue to heart. Should I get genie so I can go at same time as them or just DAS

Hey howdy hey, Susan! You’ve got a friend in me at planDisney!

I’m so excited for your January trip to the Happiest Place on Earth with your grandchildren! I love visiting the parks with my three children and my parents – there’s something so magical about watching them experience adventures together!

I’ve had experience using both Disney Genie+ service and Disability Access Service (DAS) with my mom, and I’m happy to report that you can use both at the same time if you choose to. Both of these services can be accessed from the convenience of your mobile device, using the Disneyland app. With DAS, you can add up to five other family members, but it can only be used on attractions that you're also able to ride. So, it’s smart for your crew to have Disney Genie+ service in addition to DAS for the attractions you won't be doing with them. As for whether or not you need Genie+, you don’t necessarily have to have it, though your return times may be slightly different than theirs since Genie+ and DAS have different schedules. So, if you’d like to ensure you’re on track with the rest of your family, it’s probably a good idea to add Genie+ service to your ticket. Then, once you arrive in the parks, you’ll be able to hold one DAS return time at a time, though this won’t interfere with your Genie+ selections. This is a great way to make the most of your Disney days!

Susan, did you know that you can now pre-register for DAS online ahead of your visit? The new DAS Advance program allows Guests to register online with a live video chat as early as 30 days in advance of your visit, and no less than two days before. During your registration chat, you’ll have the chance to book up to 2 one-hour return windows for select experiences, subject to availability. This is in addition to the regular DAS benefit of making return-time selections throughout your day. You can also register at the Disneyland Resort upon arrival at City Hall (in Disneyland Park), Chamber of Commerce (in Disney California Adventure Park), or any Guest Information location.

As for Disney Genie+, you can either add it to your theme park ticket during your ticket transaction on, or you can add it on a daily basis on the Disneyland app as soon as you enter either of the theme parks. While DAS is a free service, Genie+ does have a cost per Guest. Once your transaction is complete, you can go ahead and book your first Lightning Lane. You’ll be able to choose from about 19 attractions between the two theme parks, if you have Park Hopper tickets. Just keep in mind that you won’t be able to “hop” to the other park until after 1:00 PM.

Last but not least, don’t forget about my favorite perk of Disney Genie+ -- unlimited downloads of your Disney PhotoPass photos! Keep an eye out for PhotoPass opportunities on select attractions and at dining locations, too.

I hope this information helps you prepare for your visit, Susan! Please stop back with any additional questions… we’re all EARs!

    Happy planning,
