We are planning a trip with our 4 grandchildren for Nov 2015. Age range is 15-9. So much advice. So much information that it is hard to decide. We are driving down. Any suggestions as to room type and place: On ground or off? Adjoining or suite? Thanks

    Sandra:

There are so many ways to "do" Disney. If money wasn't an option, I'd recommend getting a two-bedroom villa at Beach Club to be within walking distance of Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios. You'll also enjoy the Christmas decorations in the hotels that surround Crescent Lake. The proximity to Epcot and DHS gives you the option to return to your room if you're tired but allows your older teens to stay in the park or hit the arcade. If the weather is warm, Beach Club's pool is tops.

Here are a few more economical options.

    • Although it may seem that the cheapest option is to stay off property, consider that you will have to pay to park each day. (I don't recommend relying on shuttles.) Additionally, the convenience of some in your party to return to the room during the day is greatly diminished.
    • Your next option on a budget is to book two rooms at a Value Resort. I recommend Pop Century for the ages of your family. Disney doesn't guarantee connecting or even adjoining rooms, so if you are concerned about having your family split up, especially if you're going during Thanksgiving when crowds are high, a suite at the Art of Animation would be a solid choice, but might seem juvenile to your older teen. (The family suites at All-Star Music might not give you enough room.)
    • A good compromise is to consider the Swan & Dolphin hotels in the Boardwalk area, especially if you qualify for their nurse, teacher or military specials. Whether you book two rooms or a suite, they are more affordable than the other Epcot resorts. November is a popular month, though, for these hotels because of the Food & Wine festival.
    • A cabin at Fort Wilderness offers more space, a full kitchen to make some meals to offset its cost, and provide a unique experience. If you can't get what you'd like at the Swan & Dolphin, it would be a great choice.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
