Planning a trip during RunDisney marathon week in 2026 with two toddlers but now wondering if we should postpone a week. What should we expect if staying at AoA and planning to visit Magic Kingdom on Thursday and Saturday of the week? Any other tips?

Welcome to planDisney, Kayla! Thank you for reaching out with your question. How exciting that you are planning a visit to Walt Disney World! Visiting with two little ones can be a magical experience, and I’d be happy to help you understand what to expect and share tips so your days at Magic Kingdom are as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Visiting Walt Disney World during runDisney Marathon Weekend in 2026 with two toddlers can be fun, but it comes with a few considerations. The races take place early in the morning, which means parks tend to be quieter at opening hours. This can actually be an advantage for families with young children, as popular attractions will have shorter wait times. However, late mornings and early afternoons can see an influx of runners and their families heading to the parks, which may increase crowd levels. Evenings can be a mix, some guests leave after races, potentially reducing crowd density, while post race celebrations can also draw extra visitors.

Staying at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort gives you convenient access to the parks, but transportation can be affected during runDisney events. On race mornings, buses begin transporting runners very early, and shared bus services between AoA and nearby resorts can result in longer waits during peak times. If you want more flexibility, driving or using the Skyliner can save time.

For your Magic Kingdom visits on Thursday and Saturday, expect higher crowds than usual. Arriving at park opening, or “rope drop,” is the best way to maximize time on popular rides with toddlers. Avoid Epcot on race days if possible, as race activities can make parts of the park crowded or inaccessible.

With toddlers, having a comfortable stroller is essential for long days, and planning midday breaks or naps is crucial to avoid meltdowns. Character meet and greets can be extra exciting during Marathon Weekend, as many runners dress in fun costumes that your little ones may enjoy.

If avoiding crowds is a top priority, postponing your trip by a week can be worthwhile. The week after Marathon Weekend usually sees lower crowd levels while still offering pleasant January weather, giving you a more relaxed experience with your toddlers.

Kayla, I hope this guidance helps you feel confident and excited for your Walt Disney World visit during Marathon Weekend. With thoughtful planning and a few strategic breaks, you and your little ones are sure to have magical days at Magic Kingdom and make memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you for reaching out to planDisney with your question. Wishing you a joyful, fun filled, and truly unforgettable vacation!
