We are planning a trip to Disneyland for spring break. We love staying in the Grand Californian and plan to book a downtown Disney view. Is it possible to add lounge access to the room on arrival or do you have to book the premium club level room? Thanks!

    Hi Amy,

Thanks for visiting planDisney! Sounds like you and your family might be regulars at the Grand Californian. A room with a view of Downtown Disney sounds amazing! There has been a lot of work to the downtown area. I am looking forward to visiting the new eateries inside the Parkside Market, like Seoul Sister!

Now, let's get down to business and talk club lounge access. The Veranda at the Grand Californian is a wonderful club lounge. I personally like that balcony that looks out onto all of the trees on the hotel grounds. It makes me feel like I am in  a treehouse in the redwoods. It definitely will elevate your stay. I was able to hop on the phone with a helpful Cast Member and they gave me some good information that provides a couple of options for you.

    1)  At the Grand Californian a stay in a premium club level room includes access to The Veranda. These rooms have a pool or theme park view. Not the views you were looking for though.

    2) If you are staying in a suite, you can add club service for an additional price (price based on the number of guest). There are suites across the hotel that have a view of the courtyard, pool, theme park, or of Downtown Disney. You can call Walt Disney Travel at  (714) 956-6425 (7am - 9pm Daily)  to be quoted prices and have the service added onto your suite.

If your family is committed to the Downtown Disney view, you could take the chance and get a suite and add on the service. To increase your chances of getting the view you want I would ask the Cast Member helping you from Walt Disney Travel to add a note on your reservation about your view preference. Then be sure to check into your hotel two days before your arrival and share your request again. There will be no guarantee, but take a page from Oogie Boogies book and stack the odds in your favor.

The Veranda Tip: When I had a rest day from the parks, I took my little one to The Veranda and we were able to watch the fireworks from the lounge. The lounge broadcasts the accompanying music and dialogue from the show, so we did not feel like we were missing out on any of the Disney magic. There were also lots of nighttime desserts to enjoy right before the show.

Amy, I hope this was helpful information. I am sending you pixie dust vibes that all your dreams come true.  If you have any other questions or need help planning other aspects of your trip, please feel free to write back to me or my fellow panelist, and we would be happy to share our thoughts.

    Best of luck!
