Planning trip to Disneyland first week of April 2026. Just read that monorail is going to be down. How would we get back and forth to the Disneyland hotel? Would we have to walk and go through main entrance?

Hello there, Tracy. Welcome to planDisney. Wow, you’re so close to your trip! Super exciting. You’re coming during a great time of year. Anaheim in April is beautiful, and a lot is going on at the parks, too!

Yes, the monorail is closing for refurbishment on March 30 and will not be available during your trip. Unfortunately, there isn’t any other tram or shuttle service from the Disneyland Hotel or Pixar Place, so walking through Downtown Disney to the front entrance is really your only option.

I know that the short walk from the Disneyland Hotel to the monorail station is very convenient, but it also skips over a lot of the magic of Disneyland. There is something special about going through the front gate, seeing the Mickey Flower Bed (which is actually Minnie Mouse through the end of March in honor of Women’s History Month), walking under the train tracks and seeing the “Here you leave today” plaque, hearing the genteel music of town square, and then turning the corner onto Main Street U.S.A for your first glimpse of Sleeping Beauty Castle. The walk may be less convenient, but it makes up for it in pure magic.

As I said before, you’re coming to the Disneyland Resort at a great time of year. The Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival will be in full swing. There are so many tasty bites to be had. The Disney Parks Blog released its Food & Wine Foodie Guide, and it shows all the amazing food and drinks you can taste! You can purchase a Sip and Savor to try four or eight dishes or drinks (non-alcoholic) from the various festival marketplaces around the park!

Also, Bluey’s Best Day Ever actually opens today! I have a special connection with Bandit, like maybe we’d be friends in real life. I can’t wait to see this new show. There is also a fun fair at Bluey’s school that has games, storytelling, and dance-along activities. You may even be able to snap a picture with one of the characters!

Tracy, I hope that the longer walk to the front of the park doesn’t dampen your spirits on your trip. It’s sure to be a magical experience, and I hope you make many lasting memories. If you have any other questions, we’re here for you at planDisney. Don’t hesitate to ask! I hope you have a great trip and a magical day!
