We are planning a trip to Disneyland in august 2026. The last two trips we have taken the Haunted Mansion has either been closed to take down the nightmare before christmas or is decorated. We want to see it in its original state. Any suggestions!?

Hi there, Tracey! Welcome back to planDisney. The Haunted Mansion is such an iconic attraction at The Happiest Place on Earth. To visit this beloved attraction in its original state is sure to make for a hauntingly ghoulish time! I’d love to walk you through the calendar to help ensure you can see it in its spooky state.

Currently, the Disneyland Special Events Calendar states that Halloween Time is set to return August 21 through October 31, 2026, giving the Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington himself, full reign to take over Haunted Mansion. Of course, there is time before that when the attraction undergoes its transformation to Haunted Mansion Holiday. From my experience, I’ve always found that this typically takes place in early to mid-August. Because of that timing, if you’re planning to visit in August, there’s a good chance the attraction may already be closed for the overlay or preparing for its holiday transformation rather than operating in its original state. Earlier this year, I found that the attraction remained in its holiday overlay until January 7, 2026, which can serve as a helpful gauge for when it may return to its original state in 2027. Tracey, if seeing the original state of Haunted Mansion is a must for you, I’d recommend planning your visit sometime between mid-January and July so you can enjoy the attraction before you’re caught in a Doom Buggy with Shock, Lock, and Barrel!

As you make your deadly exit out of Haunted Mansion, be sure to stop by Harbour Galley across the way. It is one of my favorite spots when I’m in this area. My family and I love to pick up a pack of cookies to take across to Tom Sawyer Island. It makes for the perfect afternoon treat!

Tracey, thank you so much for visiting planDisney. I hope this information was helpful as you plan your upcoming visit to the parks. Hurry back to planDisney for more help with your final arrangements!
