Hiya Danielle!
Welcome to planDisney! Walt Disney World Resort works hard to make itself accessible to all kinds of Guests and those in wheelchairs are definitely not forgotten.
There is no tram system but something even better!
Walt Disney World Resort Transporation is accessible for all wheelchair and ECV users. If your friend wishes to head back to a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel early after some time in the Parks and can maneuver themselves on their own then they need to head to the Resort's bus drop off/pick up location. If your Resort has other modes of transportation to the Parks such as the
Monorail or
Disney Skyliner then know that these transportation options are also wheelchair accessible. The transportation is accessible in either direction so if they are heading to the Parks or heading to the Resorts there will be safe options. Look for accessible ramps, elevators, or entry points that will lead to the wheelchair loading area. They can wait there until their transportation is ready to load them in. Cast Members will be available to assist but also look for the signage. Bus transportation stops will have a painted square that they will "park" in and your friend will have a chance to be loaded on first. The Disney Skyliner has a special area to load guests in wheelchairs as well which makes it easier for them. Don't be afraid to ask a Cast Member and give yourself time to be transported. I would say an hour from Parks to Resorts with all of the loading and unloading is a safe cushion for travel. You can adjust if you find the Parks are not that busy and it is going well but start with a larger time allotment so you get to where you want on time.
I also recommend reviewing the
Accessibility Planning Guide & Recommendations. It has great tips about how to prepare and good recommendations for places to rest and where services are located.
I hope this helps and you all make some magical memories!
Happy Planning!
