Hi! We're planning a trip to Disney World, and the dates that look like they'd be best for us are December 31-January 3. I'm a little bit concerned about the crowds during this time? Will they be so bad that you can't really walk?

    Hi Marcy!

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Thank you for bringing such a great question to us!

How exciting to plan a New Year's Eve trip to the Walt Disney World Resort. Yes, historically this is quite a busy time to visit. Aside from the normal visitors, early January is also usually time for the runDisney Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. It looks like you may miss the bulk of the crowds since it is scheduled for January 6-10, 2021. On my last visit in early January, Magic Kingdom was especially crowded and it was difficult to navigate through the crowds.

Having said that, advance planning can help! Book your vacation package early so that you can make advanced dining reservations for the length of your trip (up to 10 days) 180 days prior to your visit. Be sure to also make FastPass+  selections 60 days prior to your visit if staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel. And consider scheduling special tours as part of the Enchanting Extras Collection to see some of the behind the scenes magic-making efforts!

This past year we ended our vacation on December 28 and although it was crowded, we planned around the busy times of day. At Magic Kingdom on Christmas day, we arrived early, left at about 1:00 p.m., and then returned around 6:00 p.m. Just as we were leaving at lunchtime, it was getting quite difficult to navigate through the crowds. When we returned at night, it was crowded but manageable. So, my advice would be to plan your activities and your time in the parks to include some break time when it gets super busy!

Marcy, sending pixie dust as you plan!

    Magic and memories,
