We are planning a trip to Disney Wilderness Camp Ground in June and I have tried to find out about golf carts. My question is can I use a off site rental service? I have been told both yes and no by cast members. Do I really need one?

    Doug:

Sorry you've gotten conflicting answers on the golf cart question.

You can bring your own golf cart to Disney (and can rent one off-site, for that matter) but you cannot have it delivered to the fort by an off-site company like some guests have wheelchairs delivered to other resorts. (FYI: you used to be able to have them delivered, but no longer.) That may be where you've gotten different answers.  As long as it is not a gas cart, but an electric one, you can bring it on property. There are a few rental places in the Orlando area, but you would have to rent the trailer and hitch, too. For the money, it might not be worth the hassle.

Our family regularly stays at Fort Wilderness, and while golf carts are well-used, they are not a must-have. Unless you are planning on coming at a very busy time of the year (Halloween, Christmas, July 4th), reserving one in advance is not crucial either. My suggestion is to get there, see where you're located, and decide if you if it's a need or a want. Our family usually rents one for a day or two so we can tour the grounds and look at the decorations but certainly we don't need one for our entire stay. I don't think it's a good value (at over $50 a day plus tax) just to use it to go from our site to the pier and the Outpost to catch a bus. I'd rather spend the money on upgrading my tickets for the Water Park Option or going to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
