We are planning a trip to Disney in March 2014. Our children will be 4 and 5. If our kids need a hotel break in the afternoons, is it worth the extra money to stay at a monorail hotel? Or are the value hotels fairly close with an easy and flexible commute?

Hi Shannon! When deciding on a Disney resort its location is certainly important. Getting to and from the Value resorts from the parks can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes via the complimentary bus service. You need to also add a 15-20 minute wait time for a bus as if you are as unlucky as I am I am always watching the tail end of the resort bus leaving as I reach the bus area. If you don't mind the added time spent getting to and from the parks then the Value resorts are a wonderful choice. They all have several pools on their property and are a great place to cool off during the day. Please know that the value resort pools will not have slides or fancy amenities but they are large and still enjoyable.

The resorts located around the Magic Kingdom monorail loop will be in the Deluxe category due primarily because of the ease of getting to and from parks. You can reach both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot via monorail with buses to the other two parks. Their pools will be the most complex with slides and other enjoyment for families.

Although it hits your budget a bit steep I do suggest booking a room at one of the Deluxe resorts if you feel you will be heading back every day for rests and pool time. This will cut down on wasted transportation time when you could be enjoying some more of the Disney magic. When you or the children are tired the last thing you want to do is to stress over waiting for buses. As the children grow older and can spend a full day in the park then I don't feel it is as necessary to be close so if you can add the expense to this vacation then I suggest the Deluxe resort choice over the Value.
