We are planning a trip to Disney in 01/2011 and were deciding between the Contemporary Resort or the Animal Kingdom Resort. We will either be getting a one or two bedroom and will be travelling with a 6 and 8 yr.old girl and a 9 yr. old boy. Pros / cons

    Hi!

This is a hard question.  When I list all of the pros and cons for each resort, it will look like the Contemporary is the clear winner.  However, that's not necessarily the case as the Animal Kingdom Lodge is a spectacular resort with a fantastic theme!  If you are going to spend most of your time in the Magic Kingdom then you should definitely stay at the Contemporary.  However, if you are going to spend an equal amount of time at all of the theme parks then I recommend staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, because I think your children would absolutely love it.

    Contemporary Pros:
    • Magic Kingdom Monorail Resort
    • Easy access to the other monorail resorts and to the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness via a boat; easy to get to their restaurants, shows, etc.
    • Short walk to the Magic Kingdom
    • Easy access to Epcot via a monorail transfer at the Transportation and Ticket Center
    • Chef Mickey's, one of the best Character Dining Experiences at Walt Disney World
    Contemporary Cons:
    • Most children don't understand the theme
    • Generally more expensive than Animal Kingdom Lodge
    Animal Kingdom Lodge Pros:
    • Spectacular theme
    • Animals right outside
    • Fantastic pool
    • Great Quick Service restaurant at the Jambo House
    • Boma, one of the best buffets on property
    • Generally, less expensive than the Contemporary Resort
    Animal Kingdom Lodge Cons:
    • Have to take a Disney Bus everywhere
    • Feels isolated from the rest of Walt Disney World
Good luck and write back if you have any more questions!
