We are planning a trip to Disney from around 29th Dec 2012 for 10 nights with our 2 young kids. We have heard that the parks are incredibly busy over the holiday period. From about what date in Jan do the parks become less busy? Does it quiten down?

Hi Moray!  Yes, the parks will be hopping for New Years Eve so from December 29 through about January 2 things will be pretty busy. Depending on school vacations this could continue through January 5 but no matter what you should see things quiet down starting on January 2. Park attendance is so tough to call from year to year as school breaks change and the local guests input is always a guess.

The best advice when going during a holiday time is to be organized with dining reservations and realizing that you can't do it all but there is plenty of fun to experience in each park. The Christmas and New Years time will provide you with so many things that you can't experience at any other time so in the long run it is worth a visit. Be sure and try to see the Osborne Family Lights at Hollywood Studios, the Candlelight Processional in Epcot and the Christmas parade and shows in the Magic Kingdom. Don't forget to check out the resorts with the special decorations such as the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian and the chocolate carrousel at the Beach Club.
