We are planning a trip for December, and my husband and I want to try new table service restaurants but my son is a picky eater. Would the table service restaurants allow us to bring food for him, say from a counter service restarurant?

I understand your dilemma, Kristi. You’ve got a foodie who hasn’t graduated from his training stage yet. That’s okay; he’ll get there!

During a trip a few years ago, we brought our then four-year-old granddaughter along. We noticed a very specific pattern of behavior from her when we visited restaurants (I mean, besides choosing precisely the moment our food was delivered to announce that she needed to use the restroom). We noticed that she fairly adamantly refused most of the menu items we’d suggest. Because we are grandparents and we have a free pass on worrying about her dietary choices, we opted to allow her to enjoy a kid-friendly choice from nearby counter service locations. This never posed a problem with any of our servers.

I will say that many of the table service restaurants do offer some great choices on the kids menu. If you, like me, do not feel like fighting about food while you’re on vacation, feel free to opt in on the counter service carry-out. It shouldn’t be a problem.

I hope that helps, Kristi. Happy dining!
