Planning our 1st trip from Australia in Jan 16 with two kids 6 & 8. How many days should we stay at Disney World? I think 9 days, husband thinks that is too much disney as we are doing a 7 day disney cruise too. How busy is WDW in Jan?

    Hi Louise,

Congratulations on your first visit to Walt Disney World! To come from the land of Oz to "the world" is quite an adventure.

Figuring out how much Disney Parks time is too much can be tricky, as it depends on how much fun your family can handle in one vacation. Having a blast can be hard work! My parents started my love for Walt Disney World when I was 7, and this is how my mom always planned our vacations so we'd have the perfect amount of time at our favorite place on earth:
    • Plan a whole day to ease into the Disney magic. We always reserved a full day to explore our Resort Hotel at the beginning of our trip. We swam in the pool, ate dinner at the resort, and even talked about what we wanted to do during our first day in the theme parks.
    • We always reserved 1 full day for each park. This ensured that we weren't rushing to get to another park, and we could have our meals within the theme park of the day, or at one of the Resort Hotels near the park.
    • We reserve one extra day to re-visit the attractions or shows we really loved. If we can afford it, we sometimes reserved 2 days to do this. You can also use one of those days to visit Downtown Disney.
    • Lastly, we reserve yet another day to exploring our Resort Hotel. This was called the "wind down" day, where we packed, laid about, and enjoyed all the amenities of the resort.

So, all and all, that would be 7 or 8 days of pixie-dusted fun without feeling overwhelmed.

I hope this vacation breakdown helps you with your planning, Louise. Enjoy your time at Walt Disney World and on your Disney Cruise.

    Have a fantastical Disney day!
