We are planning our trip in August, our only Magic Kingdom day was August 18th. Why does it close early? Not many chances to see fireworks when Halloween party is going on too. You need reservations before hours are announced.

Hiya Michelle! Welcome to planDisney! I'm excited about your upcoming trip to Walt Disney World in just a couple of short months. Before you know it you'll be hanging out with Mickey, Minnie, and the rest of the crew!

Michelle, I understand your concern. With Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party debuting in August, there are certain dates throughout the week when the Magic Kingdom will close early for this special ticketed event. So when the park closes early on another day, it does limit the number of times you get a chance to view the nighttime spectacular. I'm not sure how many days you plan to visit the Walt Disney World Resort, but I did check the hours at the Magic Kingdom for that week, and August 15th, 17th, and 20th all have normal operating hours. Disney Enchantment is expected to be shown on those nights.

If the nighttime event is important to you, then I recommend trying to switch the day you visit the Magic Kingdom. Otherwise, there is an advantage sometimes to a park closing early. Many Guests decide to avoid that park which could cause crowds to be less throughout the day. Wait times for attractions, food, and experiences tend to be lower which allows you to fit more things into a shorter period. When my family has gone this route in the past, we usually plan an Advanced Dining Reservation for around closing time at a restaurant inside of the park to truly maximize the day. This way when you are heading out of the park, you can get some amazing pictures with virtually no one around you.

You can make changes to your park reservations at any time leading up to your trip. You'll need to cancel the current one on that day and make the new reservation thereafter. Make sure to check the park availability calendar before doing so in case the park you are changing to is not available on the new date.

Michelle, I hope you can do some maneuvering around with your schedule and you can fit in everything you want to experience on your trip.

    See ya real soon!
