We are planning a trip for Aug/10. Our 8-year-old son qualifies for the children's dining plan, but he is a good eater and likes variety. Many of the children's menus appear to have limited menu choices. Is it worth paying adult rate for DP and passes?

Hi Michael, Your son sounds a lot my 9 year old! He can eat more than his older brother in most sittings, and definitely likes variety.

The price difference between an adult and child on Disney's Dining  Plan is considerable. What we do is we reserve a lot of buffet or "family-style" meals. At these places, the kids are offered the same choices as the adults...and it's all you can care to eat.

Our son was 8 on our last trip and a few of his favorites then were:

    • 'Ohana in the Polynesian- delicious food and fun atmosphere, complete with coconut rolling and hula lessons!
    • Boma in the Animal Kingdom Lodge- a great variety, and beautiful surroundings (you can enjoy the animals on the Savanna before and after dinner).
    • Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary- great food including a make-your-own sundae bar, and wonderful character interaction.
    • Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom- fantastic buffet with great character interaction.
    • Donald's Safari Breakfast in the Animal Kingdom- again, wonderful buffet and character time.
    • Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom- great food served "family style", this is another favorite.

As far as Quick Service meals, the adult portions are very generous. I always shared with him and still had more than enough for myself.

Hope this helps and have a great trip!
