We are planning a trip for April 2011 and will stay at the Swan or Dolphin We'll have one child - turning 5. I'm wondering if we should bother renting a car since the hotel has transportation to the parks? Are they reliable?

I've stayed at the Dolphin twice and never had trouble with its bus transportation to Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom.  In fact, some evenings, the buses are shared between the Boardwalk and Beach Club with the Swan & Dolphin, so what's good for Deluxe resort guests is good for me!

Because of its proximity to Disney's Hollywood Studios and Epcot, we simply walked to those parks or took the ferries that serve them from the hotel.  And keep in mind that you'll have to park your car at the Ticket & Transportation Center for the Magic Kingdom and then take the ferry or monorail there.  That leaves only one park: Animal Kingdom to drive to, and my guess is that you will probably only visit it one day...

In my opinion, I don't think a rental car is warranted with a stay at the Swan & Dolphin--especially since they charge for parking, unlike the Disney resorts. Additionally, these hotels are not on the Magical Express system and, even though you'll pay for a taxi from the airport to the hotel and that could go toward the car rental, the overnight parking fee for the car again negates that.

If you get to the hotel, and after a day or two decide you must have a car, there is a car rental location at the hotel, one of only two on Disney property.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
