Planning a trip in April 2015 coming up from Sydney Australia. Looking at 12 nights at either art of animation or port Orleans French quarter. Family suites seem ideal but are a bit out of our budget. Which standard room would you suggest? Thanks

    Hello Sharon!

Congratulations on your upcoming vacation.  Staying 12 nights you are sure to be brimming with Pixie Dust by the end of your trip!

Without knowing your family demographics (number of kids, ages, etc...) I hesitate to outright recommend one resort over the other since I love them both.  I will list the main advantages for each resort first:

    Port Orleans French Quarter

    • Smaller resort ~ every room is a quick stroll to the lobby, pool, food court or bus station
    • Coffeemaker in the room (both have refrigerators)
    • Pool area with slide and hot tub/spa
    • Close to a table service restaurant at Port Orleans Riverside
    • Romantic grounds for strolling or jogging
    • Added amenities like bike rentals
    • Boat ride to Downtown Disney

Art of Animation Little Mermaid Standard Room

    • Highly themed rooms and grounds - very immersive storybook setting
    • Ariel, King Triton, Flounder, Prince Eric, Ursula and Sebastian!
    • Rates usually less per night than Port Orleans French Quarter
    • Access to the Big Blue Pool (near Finding Nemo section)
    • Larger quick service food court

If any of the above features (like Ariel!) really appeals to your family then you should go with that one as each family is unique.  If given the same situation my family would chose the Port Orleans French Quarter.  We really enjoyed the romantic grounds, quick access from our room to the main areas, and the added amenities like renting surrey bikes.

I hope this information helps you in planning your Walt Disney World vacation.  Please come back with any further vacation planning questions that you have.

    Blessings,
