We are planning on traveling on May 26, 2009 for 7 nights with a 4yr old! whom does not like characters? any advice. I am also wondering if this is a good time for weather and lines at the parks? Would we be able to use the waterparks then?

Hi Erika.   Let me start by responding to your questions regarding the weather and lines.   As for weather, I think you will find this a delightful time to visit.    I live in Florida and the weather really warms up nice in May without typically getting too humid (or potentially rainy).    Clearly waterparks are a fun option and perfect for this time of year.

As for crowds, you will be arriving the Tuesday after Memorial weekend.   While there will be some lingering effect from the holiday weekend, the good news is that you are arriving before many schools are out (such as Florida which finished the first week of June).

Now, for the Disney characters.   My son also was a bit scared his first visit.   The good news is that the Disney characters will rarely come up close to young children and startle them.   The only circumstance this may happen is during character meals, where the characters make a point of providing that extra close attention.    However, I did find that after a few days, my son warmed up to the characters and by the end of our vacation he was completely into it.  I hope the same will be true for your 4 year old.    Enjoy your vacation!
