We are planning to travel to WDW January 2-7th. It is a surprise Christmas gift for our three children: 9/6/1. Do you expect the crowds to be heavy since the school holidays are spread over the week? What would be the best clothing to pack for the family?

    Hi Danielle!

Thanks for sending the Disney Parks Moms Panel your question.  What a magical Christmas gift for your family!  I can't imagine what you will plan next year to top this surprise, I wish I could be there to see your family's reaction on Christmas Morning!  I think you are going to be pleased with the dates you have chosen for your Walt Disney World Resort vacation.  You will see crowd levels thin out as the week progresses as the guests who traveled for the holiday season are heading home.  You will also miss the crowds arriving for the RunDisney Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend (the marathon is scheduled to begin the weekend after your visit).  I like to use the unofficial website www.tourningplans.com.  This website has a crowd predictor and is a great way to help determine which Theme Parks will be less crowded during your stay.

When packing for January, I tend to over pack.  My suitcases are filled with pants, long sleeve shirts and sweaters along with t-shirts and capri pants.  It is tricky, as one day can be beautiful, while the next it is freezing!  I would recommend packing with the idea of layering, so you will not have to purchase some items as the weather changes.  I have found that mornings are usually chilly, the days are typically warm, while evenings can be cold.  I like to pack a sweater in my bag when leaving for the Theme Park in the morning, as well as some light-weight gloves and even a hat for my daughter.  There have been times where I have worn my winter jacket, and a few days later gone swimming!  I also never leave home without a rain poncho!

I hope you have a magical vacation at Walt Disney World Resort Danielle.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.  I would love to hear from you again!
