Hi Kristi! It is definitely easier and more fun when you are traveling with a large group to all be within easy access to each other. Having close rooms in a resort will save time and energy when making plans.
Take a look at the different choices of
Disney Resorts. You will see three categories, Value, Moderate, and Deluxe. Look and find your favorites and then
Compare using this chart. Obviously the less expensive rooms will be the Value resorts but the Deluxe offer the most amenities.
Be careful in the terminology when requesting rooms to be close. If you want rooms that have interior doors to the next room it is called connecting. If you want a room next door to another but you must go outside into the hall to reach them it is called adjoining. The best way to get this is by requesting on the phone when making your reservation and then as it gets closer to call again and make sure it is listed. When making a reservation on line you should have a place where they ask if there is anything you request with the room and or resort. You can also fax a request to the resort about 10 days before your arrival date.
Please note that these are simply requests. The resort room assigners deal with room puzzles daily when trying to please every guest and their requests. When other guests extend their reservations or when guests change rooms it becomes even more difficult. But I can honestly tell you that they will try to do what they can to make magic for the group.
A specific resort is not better then another but would look at the moderates and deluxe resorts to fit your requests best.
