Hi Jamie,
Welcome to planDisney! How wonderful to be able to take your son to the Walt Disney World Resort for his birthday!
Although we have not travelled during Thanksgiving, we have travelled during the week prior and week of Christmas, both quite busy times of year. My advice is to book your
vacation package with a
Disney Resorts Collection hotel as soon as possible if you have not booked it yet. At busier times of year, we always choose a resort hotel with access to multiple transportation options. In December, we prefer to stay at
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa because it has access to
Walt Disney World® Monorail Transportation and has a walking path to Magic Kingdom.
Once you book that vacation package, be sure to link it in your
My Disney Experience account. After it is linked, you should be able to make
Disney Park Pass system reservations. Be sure to make these as soon as possible because they can be limited. Check the
theme park reservation availability calendar before selecting the dates of your visit to make sure there are park passes available. Since your son is such a huge
Star Wars fan, I suggest that you spend his birthday at
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, so, make a reservation for Disney's Hollywood Studios.
Once you make that park pass reservation, consider making reservations for
Savi's Workshop to build a lightsaber and
Droid Depot to build a droid. Our young Jedi loved these experiences but were especially awed by the lightsaber building at Savi's Workshop. Also make a reservation for some refreshment at
Oga's Cantina. It is one of our favorite places to meet up with other Resistance Allies who have committed to the Cause. Currently reservations for Droid Depot, Savi's Workshop, and Oga's Cantina can be made 60-days prior to your arrival. I cannot stress enough to make them on this date. Reservations get full quickly!
Jamie, may the Force be with you as you plan!
Good journey,
Donyell
