Planning a stay at the Grand Californian and have walking disability. How far is the walk from hotel to the area where we can rent a wheelchair for the day? Are there multiple entrance/exits to the Grand Californian to access Downtown Disney?

Aloha, Christine, and welcome to our 'ohana!

I'm so happy that you came to planDisney with your question. We're excited for your visit to Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and want you to have the best time ever! The Resort and grounds are absolutely stunning and you'll love the turn of the century Craftsman design.

The Disneyland Resort does a wonderful job of offering accessibility to Guests with disabilities. The Grand Californian Hotel & Spa has its own separate entrance into the Downtown Disney District and also one into Disney California Adventure. Wheelchair and ECV rentals are available at the esplanade just to the right outside Disneyland's Main Entrance. In addition, wheelchairs are also available for rent at certain Disneyland Resort Hotels, which may be arranged upon check-in at the Front Desk. According to the map, it is a walking distance of 0.3 miles from the Hotel's special exit through Downtown Disney to the entrance plaza. Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis and reservations may not be made in advance.

Have you considered a length-of-stay rental option for either a wheelchair or ECV? ScooterBug is the Featured Provider for Disneyland Resort Hotel Guests and will deliver either a wheelchair or ECV to your hotel so there would be no risk of unavailability on the day of your Park visit. You'd also be able to enter Disney California Adventure directly from your Hotel without having to stop by the esplanade. There are also several third-party ECV and wheelchair providers in the area that you can easily locate via an Internet search. However, pick-up and return would have to be arranged through them.

Don't forget that as a Guest of an official Disneyland Resort Hotel, you get early entry into the Theme parks 30 minutes prior to the general public! Disney maintains a list of attractions that will require transferring from your wheelchair to a ride vehicle, so plan accordingly. If you have the time, take a moment to relax and treat yourself to a massage at the Tenaya Stone Spa! My wife and I enjoyed a couple's massage there and it was truly wonderful.

Christine, I hope you found this information helpful for your upcoming visit. If you have any further questions, please feel free to write to us again at planDisney, or you can contact me if you would like me to elaborate on anything.

    Have a Magical Day!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
