we are in the planning stages for a 14 person family vacation to WDW in 2012. Need to know pros/cons of staying off-site or on-site. Has anyone stayed off-site and rented a house? I have stayed on-site. But with a big group, I need to look at best values.

Hi Kevin! Great question! I have stayed both on and off property, and much prefer being close to everything. I personally believe the level of service, extras, quality of amenities etc. cannot be beat. Pros of being a Disney Resort guest include:

    - Complimentary transportation on Magical Express from Orlando International Airport to your resort and back saves time and money.

    - Free transportation within all Walt Disney World areas. I love not having to drive while on vacation!

    - Resort guests enjoy Extra Magic Hours, which are extended theme park hours, either an hour before the park opens or up to three hours past closing time!

    - I love the package delivery to my resort. Whatever you purchase can be shipped for pickup at your resort. No lugging purchases all day!

    - The Disney Dining Plan is a money saving option for resort guests only.

That being said, I did enjoy staying off property with my family. Many rental properties include a private pool, and can offer more space. We did need to contend with traffic entering and exiting the parks though.

Hope this helps Kevin! Write us back with any other questions!
