I am planning my son's first character meal. We have always camped at Fort Wilderness and love that atmosphere. As far as characters are concerned, which is better Mickey's Backyard Barbeque or the Hoop Dee Doo Musical? Thanks so much for your help!

Hello Candice!  I'm so happy you've stopped by to ask your question here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

I love planning Disney firsts!  Both experiences are a lot of fun and I think you would like both, however, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is not a traditional character experience.  Hoop-Dee-Doo is a dinner show that's a rootin' tootin' good time.  There's dancing and singing, some joke telling and really great food too.  It's great for people of all ages and if it's atmosphere you are going for, this exudes Disney's Fort Wilderness.  However, you wont see characters you recognize like Mickey or Minnie Mouse.  If characters are what you are hoping for, then Mickey's Backyard BBQ would be my go to.  At this dining experience you'll be able to meet, dance around and even take pictures with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Chip 'n Dale!  The food here is also a great BBQ spread of favorites like ribs, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixins.

While I do enjoy both meals, they are really very different.  If it's characters you are looking for, then I would suggest Mickey's Backyard BBQ hands down.  I hope this helps, if you have any other questions, please come back and ask.

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
