Hi Matthew,
Welcome back to planDisney and thank you for asking us a great question, this time about your family’s Disney Cruise Line voyage!
My little guy was 10 during our last sailing on the Disney Magic and he really was in an in-between age for the
Youth Clubs on the ship. Ultimately, he chose to go to
Disney's Oceaneer Lab most of the time, but we did speak to the Youth Experience cast members at
Edge and we were able to sign a waiver that would let him visit that club too, because he was already 10 years old.
Based on my understanding, there’s no guarantee that cruisers under the age of 11 will be allowed to visit Edge on a given sailing, even with a parental waiver. The decision will really on how many cruisers of a given age are on that sailing and on the Cast Members’ discretion. I’ve also never heard of a 9-year-old getting access to Edge, no matter how mature they may be. And, from what I understand, the moment that a kiddo turns 13, they are no longer able to access
Disney's Oceaneer Club and Disney's Oceaneer Lab.
That said, I’d recommend that you speak to the Youth Activities Cast Members at Edge when you board the ship. You’ll likely be able to tour the area with via an open house and you can chat with them about whether your younger kiddo would be allowed into the club with their older sibling. And, please reassure them both that even if they can’t play together in the clubs, they’ll definitely be able to find some other activities to do together during
Port Adventures and even with some of the
Sports & Recreation options available onboard.
Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions. We’re always happy to help!
Have a Magical Day,
Lynne
