I am planning on running the 2013 Princess 1/2 marathon but wanted to make a family trip out of it as well. Like you I am a huge Disney fan I don't rest until I'm on my way home. Would you recommend staying the week before the race or the week after?

Hi Tina!  Good for you!  You will love the Princess Half!  All runners would love it, but big Disney fans in particular really fall in love with running at Disney!

I have actually taken the trips both ways, before and after a race.  The secret will be to how much you have trained for the run.  I find that if I have properly trained, then I am really not that sore/tired after the race.  I do take that race day as a "resort day".  My kids will play around the resort and in the pools while I take a nap.  But generally, after that, I am good-to-go!  I love going to the parks knowing that the race is done and my medal is around my neck.  I also think the walking around is a great way to keep from getting stiff.

There is nothing wrong with vacationing before the race.  Your legs may be a little tired from park-hopping, but as long as you watch your diet and get a decent amount of rest, it will be fine.

If you are asking for my personal opinion, though, I prefer to vacation after the race.  That way you DON'T have to worry about everything you are eating, and you WON'T feel guilty when you stay at Magic Kingdom until 1 a.m.!   Also, I still have some pre-race nerves, and I don't like anything that gets in my way of being 100% carefree at Disney World!

I hope this helps!  Please let me know if I can help you get ready for the Princess half marathon in any other way!
