We are planning to rope drop Magic Kingdom and take a break for late breakfast at ‘Ohana; how long should we plan for it to take to get from Magic Kingdom to the Polynesian Resort via the monorail?

Aloha Stephen and welcome to planDisney!

Walt Disney World Resort is a very big, very magical place, and I applaud your efforts to get your bearings on timing and transportation ahead of time. I also commend your decision to get an early start on your Magic Kingdom day and have a late breakfast at 'Ohana. The freshly baked Pineapple-Coconut Breakfast Bread is the stuff food memories are made of.

When it comes to traveling around Walt Disney World Resort, getting there is half the fun! Disney's still working on magic carpets, but other transportation options include buses, water taxis, Disney Skyliner, and the world-famous Disney monorail. My son could spend all day riding around on the monorail; we even brought a toy monorail home as a souvenir after a recent trip.

When taking the monorail from Magic Kingdom to Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, make sure you follow the signs to the Resort monorail. Monorails arrive approximately every 10 minutes and the Polynesian is the third stop on the Resort monorail loop after Disney's Contemporary Resort and Disney's Transportation and Ticket Center. I'd be at the entrance to Magic Kingdom 45 minutes before your dining reservation. The trip will take about 25 minutes, giving you plenty of time to check in for your breakfast reservation. The monorail station is on the same level as the restaurant.

Did you know the My Disney Experience mobile app allows you to search transit times for various modes of transportation? Start by clicking on the location icon at the bottom of the app's home screen, which is the second icon from the left. Click the down arrow at the top and select "Transportation" from the bottom of the drop-down menu. If you filter your location to Magic Kingdom park and click the monorail icon that appears above the monorail station, you can click to "Get Directions." Search 'Ohana as your destination and you'll be able to scroll through the available transportation options. The water taxi, for example, will take you approximately 37 minutes (boards depart every 20 minutes). It's also possible to walk from Magic Kingdom to the Polynesian, which takes approximately 24 minutes.

'Ohana is a popular dining destination at Walt Disney World. Advance dining reservations can be made online 60 days in advance. Guests staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel may make reservations for their entire length of their stay, up to 10 days, 60 days in advance of arrival. To ensure maximum availability, I recommend being on the 'Ohana webpage, logged into your My Disney Experience account by 5:45 a.m, 60 days in advance. In my experience, the reservations open up around 6:00 a.m. The early bird gets the Stitch waffles!

    Plan magic; planDisney.
