Hi. I am planning a road trip to Disney and will be driving a small motorhome. I am planning on staying at the Disney campgrounds. Any advice? I am considering bringing my dog? 2 adults 1 child. Dates April 13-18.

Hi Tracy! I have two different friends who frequent the Fort Wilderness campgrounds with their RV's and wouldn't trade the experience for anything!  You might want to consider renting a golf cart for your stay so you can get around the property easily.  They both enjoy different loops with one wanting to be close to the main area and marina and the other wanting to be in the back areas where the deer frequent as they enjoy the more peacefulness of that experience.  Disney will provide a space where you can have your dog and also that is appropriate for the size vehicle you will be bringing.  The spots all have picnic tables and grills and are fairly spacious. Many have been refurbished recently.

There are dog walking areas for you to use and two general stores that carry basic food and supplies.  The Fort Wilderness recreation options are wonderful from pools, horseback riding, boat rental, fishing, archery, bike rentals and much more.  There is a nightly singalong campfire program followed by outdoor movies and one of my favorite things to do is to visit the Walt Disney stables and see the horses that work in the parks.  Just outside the stables you can also have pony rides for the children.

Fort Wilderness is home to the Hoop De Doo Revue dinner show as well as Mickey's Backyard Barbecue for the kids.  You can easily get to the Magic Kingdom via boat launch and buses will take you to all other parks and locations on property.  I think you will have a wonderful Disney magical experience on this trip that many never experience!
