Hi Amy,
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Thank you for bringing this question to us!
The California Grill is one of our favorite restaurants at the Walt Disney World Resort. The view from atop the Contemporary resort is spectacular. Dining there during the fireworks is a magical way to end the day. On our last visit we made a reservation for 8:50 p.m. but arrived 30 minutes early to check-in at the California Grill desk which was located on the second floor of the resort. They allowed us to go up to the restaurant and seated us in the lounge area for about 10 minutes. Our table was ready soon after we arrived.
When we checked-in, one of our girls told the cast member that we were celebrating a birthday (Daddy's birthday is quite important) and we requested a window seat. A cast member did seat us at a table by a window and the view was gorgeous! Our girls were very proud of themselves and I was very grateful to the cast member.
I would also suggest that you consider reserving the
Celebration at the Top - Sip, Savor and Sparkle event at the California Gill. The view from the deck is lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the fireworks with a few other guests. Have you heard of the new projection show that will start at Magic Kingdom in May?
Happily Ever After is set to replace the Wishes nighttime spectacular.
While there may be no secret to getting a window seat at the California Grill, I trust that the cast members will make every effort to sprinkle some pixie dust on your evening!
I do hope you have a magical time!
