We are planning a one day trip to the Magic Kingdom in August. We were advised to not purchase the Magic bands since we are not staying at a Disney Resort. So how would we use our fast passes? What will we be scanning? Thanks in advanced!

    Hi Tina,

All Magic Kingdom ticketing for off-site guests is now done via RFID (radio frequency ID) enabled ticket cards. These look just like plastic credit cards, but they are enabled with technology that allows them to scanned and tapped at Disney park locations. They have identical functions as the MagicBands. The only difference is that you'll keep them in your pocket instead of on your wrist. DisneyWorld hotel guests are able to use similar card if they prefer not to wear something on their wrist.

If you'll just be at the parks for one day, I agree with the advice not to get MagicBands. The bands currently cost $12.95 plus tax. I don't personally think that this extra expense would be worth it for just the small amount of convenience you'd get from the Band. Tapping your ticket on the in-park sensors will work equally well, without any extra fee.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
