Hiya David! Welcome to planDisney!
It's always a great idea to get a head start on the planning process for a
Walt Disney World vacation! There is so much that goes into planning your stay that the earlier you can begin, the better prepared for your trip you will be! A nine-night stay is the perfect amount of time to experience everything around the Resort, while also working in plenty of time for relaxation!
Booking a trip when one Guest is only planning on staying for a portion of the time can be tricky. If you plan on booking a vacation package, which includes both park tickets and resort accommodations, your son will need to be included for the entirety of the trip. His park tickets will need to be for the same amount of days that your tickets are for. One way around this is to book a room-only reservation at
Disney's Contemporary Resort and purchase your park tickets separately. This way your son can purchase tickets for the exact amount of days he will be onsite while not tying them directly to the resort room. The downside to booking your stay this way is your tickets will be non-refundable in the case that you need to cancel your trip. You'll also need to pay for them at the time of purchase, rather than over a period leading up to your stay.
If you decide on a room-only reservation, I would recommend
calling the Walt Disney World Resort and speaking to a Cast Member to explain your accommodation plans. They will be able to assist with having your son added for a portion of your stay. Remember, although your park tickets will be non-refundable, if you do need to change the dates of your stay, you can always do so by changing your park tickets to reflect the new dates. You'll never lose the value that you paid for these tickets.
David, I'm excited you have chosen Disney's Contemporary Resort for this trip! There is nothing more classic than staying at one of the first Disney Resorts built. Being just steps away from the
Magic Kingdom is the icing on the cake! You'll also get to check out the newly renovated Incredibles-themed rooms! Even the carpeting and artwork in the hallways received an update to tie in the theming!
I hope this information helps you plan your vacation for next year!
