We are planning our next trip for February 13-18. We haved always stayed at a value resort and this time we were thinking of upgrading to a moderate resort. Which do you recommend and why?

    Catina:

The time of year dictates my recommendation: Port Orleans.

Caribbean Beach Resort would be a solid choice in warmer weather, as its draw is its over-the-top Pirate-themed pool area.  Coronado Springs comes in a close second with its more upscale interiors in the rooms but mainly because you are from Louisiana and the Port Orleans resorts may seem so familiar in landscape that you don't feel you're far from home like the Southwest resort-feel that Coronado Springs offer.

But Port Orleans has one attraction that gives it a leg up for the time of year: its boat to Downtown Disney.  In February, the theme parks will still be closing earlier than they will come Spring Break and summer.  A gentle moon-lit ride on one of its boats down the Sassagoula provides a memory-making ride for a family or a romantic drift for a couple on the nights when you get back to the resort and still have more night left in you!  (Just remember to dress warmly.)  Although my preference is the smaller French Quarter section with its views of the river and iron-railed theme, it may seem like staying in your backyard.  Magnolia Bend's mansions gives it a run for the money, though, and would be a solid alternative.

If the boat and quainter feel of the French Quarter aren't different enough for you, go with Coronado Springs and request the Casitas or Cabanas area which are closer to the main building and offer lush landscaping in stark contrast to the bare rock, dessert-feel of the Ranchos section.

If you're on the dining plan, either resort is a solid choice.  Coronado Springs offers the best quick-service food court of all the resorts (deluxe, too) while Port Orleans provides the boat to Downtown Disney for more options off the resort's campus.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
