We were planning on going to Magic Kingdom April 18, 2024 but I heard that the crowd at MK might be much much larger due to the RunDisney event? Should we switch to another day earlier in the week to make it a more pleasant first visit for our 1 year old?

Hey Howdy Hey Ashley and welcome to planDisney fellow Buckeye!

How exciting to hear that your big vacation to the Most Magical Place on Earth is just days away! There are so many exciting things happening at the Walt Disney World Resort right now, you picked a great time to visit. Speaking of your visit, let's talk about crowd levels in Walt Disney World for your upcoming trip.

Crowd levels are one of the big concerns for many when planning a trip to Walt Disney World. Rightfully so as crowds do ebb and flow throughout the year and can significantly impact your vacation experience. As you have mentioned Ashley, RunDisney events will cause a little bump in crowd levels the week before and after the events with families and friends making a Magical getaway out of the events. One thing you can do that may help give you a better understanding of expectations with crowds is to do an internet search for crowd calendars.

If you type in "Crowd Calendar for Disney World" you will be given several sites that use historical data as well as combine with upcoming events to predict crowd levels. They will also give recommendations on which parks to visit and when. With several of the calendars we use for our family trips, they actually recommend visiting Magic Kingdom on the 18th. I would say that if you plan to visit Magic Kingdom on the 18th, go for it! RundDisney events do contribute to a bump in Theme Park attendance but, in my experience, this was nothing like the huge increase with things like spring break or during Christmas time.

I feel anytime in Disney World you will have to work with crowd levels but there are ways to make them manageable. Purchasing Genie+ on our days in the parks will give you access to Lightning Lanes which will make your experience so much easier to get around with more time enjoying the parks and less time spent in long stand-by lines for attractions. Utilizing the free Genie on your My Disney Experience app during your days in the parks can also help guide you to your places of interest with lower crowd levels. These are all ways to make your day in the park more manageable with less time waiting in lines.

I hope this information helped decide on your plans for your upcoming trip. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out and let us know, we are always happy to help!

    Have a Magical day,
