    We are planning a large family gathering and have a reservation at Ft. Wilderness. Can we have a picnic in the public area's of this resort or is there an area available for this?

    Hi Dawn!

    The Fort Wilderness Resort is a great place for a family gathering. Many guests book several cabins and set up tables between the two for their dining while cooking on the grills that are provided. If you have a campsite reservation then the public area is the best option. You can find the large picnic area by the Meadows Pool and tennis courts. There are a number of picnic tables as well as a large grill there and it is covered making it even more comfortable. There is no car parking so you will have to walk, take a golf cart, or bike to this area. You can rent a golf cart to use the day of the gathering but make sure you reserve it way ahead of time as there are only so many and they are one of the most popular "extras" at the Fort.

    The use of the picnic area is on a first come basis and if other guests wish to use some of the tables at the same time you will be sharing the facility. But it doesn't happen often that you would find this an issue and it will be a great spot for your gathering. Have fun!
