We are planning a July 2013 trip for 7 in our family - kids are 13, 11, 10, 4, and 2. We are looking to stay in the deluxe price range, but wondered what is closest/easiest to Magic Kingdom? Proximity is probably our biggest criteria!

Hi Kristi!  I'd love to suggest some deluxe resorts that might work for your family.  Because ease of travel and proximity to Magic Kingdom is your primary concern, I would definitely recommend a monorail resort.  There are three of those: Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian.  Of these, the Contemporary is within walking distance to Magic Kingdom, so--based on your preferences--that may or may not give it an edge over the Polynesian and Grand Floridian.  The not so good news is that standard rooms at these resorts accommodate only five people; your family would require either two standard rooms or a pricey suite.  You might want to consider a stay at Bay Lake Tower.  As a deluxe villa property that neighbors the Contemporary, it offers more spacious accommodations for larger families.  Fair warning: rooms there do come with a hefty price tag.  As for ease of travel to Magic Kingdom, though, because each of the resorts I've mentioned are but a quick monorail ride away from the park, all of them would offer your family convenient access to Magic Kingdom.  It would really come down to personal preference for theme and budget.  Good luck with your decision!

Given your inclination to plan a magical trip, I can already tell we have a lot in common. I'm Darcie, and my friends would be the first to tell you that Disney trip planning (especially dining!) is my love language. Of course, the vacations my family enjoys today look much different than they did when our kids were little, but while some of our favorite activities have evolved, Disney destinations still top our travel wish lists. Let's work together to plan a downright dreamy vacation for your family! Learn More About Darcie
