Planning to see Illuminations for the first time this summer. Isn't it fireworks? Is it all in the sky or is there something over that lagoon that we will want to see? If necessary, how early should we stake out a good place and where?

    Hi Jana!

Yes, IllumiNations has a firework component, but there's also a show that plays on a enormous globe out the in the middle of the lagoon.  There are several parts of the show where there are no fireworks and the spotlight (so to speak) is on the globe.  It helps tell the story for the show.

I usually suggest finding your 'spot' at least an hour beforehand, depending on the crowds.  You don't mention specifically when your trip will be during the summer, so I'm assuming 'normal' summertime attendance.

There are wonderful views from all around the World Showcase.  We particularly enjoy the view from Italy and Japan.  There is a viewing area just as you enter World Showcase from Future World that we also frequent, but it can be crowded.

If you plan ahead, you can book a dining reservation and (hopefully) be lucky enough to get a window seat for the show.  La Hacienda de San Angel, Rose & Crown Pub, and Teppan Edo all have areas from which you can view the fireworks while dining, BUT being seated with a view is not guaranteed.

    Have a magical vacation!
