Howdy, Karen! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Let's get ready for a picnic, Walt Disney World style!
As luck would have it, my family is planning a stay at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground very soon and we'll be joining in the fun at
Mickey's Backyard BBQ, too. And getting there from the Magic Kingdom Park is a piece of cake.
First things first: you'll need to pick up your tickets ahead of time. You can do that at your Resort hotel concierge if you're staying on Walt Disney World property, or at the Fort Wilderness Pavilion box office at least 40 minutes before showtime.
To get to the BBQ on the day of your reservation, head for the Resort Launch dock after you exit the Magic Kingdom and take the boat bound for Fort Wilderness. When you arrive at the Fort Wilderness Marina, you should see Pioneer Hall in front of you as you walk down the dock. Bear right and head down the path to the Fort Wilderness Pavilion. It should only be about a 5-minute walk.
Your total travel time should be about 30 minutes or so, but be sure to build in at least an extra 20 minutes in case you have to wait for a boat at the Magic Kingdom Resort Launch dock. They'll start letting Guests in about 20 minutes before showtime. So, for our 5:30 show I'd want to arrive around 5, and I'd probably be at the Magic Kingdom dock no later than 4.
I hope this helps with your planning, Karen. Have a blast at the BBQ!
Keep Disney Dreaming,
Kathy K.
