We are planning to go to Mickey's Not So Spooky Halloween party in costume. Although it says that face paint is OK, it is not clear how much face paint is allowed for this event. Can it cover the face like Cosplay?

    Boo to You, R Scott!

Welcome to planDisney! I, for one, am thrilled that the spooky season is upon us, and nothing gets me into a ghoulish spirit quite like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!

Speaking of which, thank you for your excellent question! As someone who spends a lot of time carefully planning out her family’s Halloween costume each year, I spend a lot of time becoming familiar with the costume guidelines as well. Ultimately, Cast Members have final discretion on costumes and accessories, but let me share what I learned about face paint. Now, there is nothing in the costume guidelines prohibiting face paint, but there are some guidelines related to masks. When I spoke to a Cast Member, they advised that your face paint not include anything removable (think prosthetics) and also take into consideration how much it conceals your face. The more “mask-like” your paint and the more it covers your face, the more likely it will come under scrutiny at the gate.

I hope this was helpful, R Scott. Before I let you go, since you are planning ahead, don’t forget to check out the Disney Parks Blog Foodie Guide! After my costume, my next step is always planning out my snack stops! There are some incredible sweet and savoury options this year. I hope you have a blast at the party, and please come back and see us if you need anything else.

    Happy Planning,
