Bright Suns, Cindy! That is how the citizens of the planet Batuu (where
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is located) wish you a good morning. Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!
I love hearing that you’re planning a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort with your grandsons. My children have a
Grand Adventure coming up with their grandparents in just a few weeks, and they cannot wait to ride their favorite attractions and snack on Mickey pretzels with their grandma and grandpa. You’re going to make the most special memories together!
I visited Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge a few months ago, and it’s absolutely out of this world. You and your young padawans are going to have a blast living your Star Wars adventure. One of my very favorite experiences in the entire land was building a custom lightsaber at
Savi’s Workshop. You can feel the Force flowing throughout the entire experience, and when we lit up our lightsabers at the end, I actually cried. If you’re looking for a less expensive price point, your grandsons can build lightsabers at
Tatooine Traders at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (located beside
Star Tours - The Adventures Continue), and they can also be purchased at
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.
The lightsabers Guests build at Savi’s come with sturdy, padded carrying cases, and I’ve seen Guests bring them aboard airplanes as carry-on luggage – but note that they will likely not fit in checked luggage. The pre-built option should fit in most luggage. Currently, lightsabers are allowed in both checked and carry-on baggage, but that is subject to change and at the discretion of the security officers at the airport, and I advise you to check the Transportation Security Administration’s guidelines before you travel.
I spoke to a Cast Member when I was on Batuu, and she told me that they are
able to ship lightsabers anywhere in the galaxy. This may be an easier option for getting your padawans’ lightsabers home safely without having to worry about packing or airport security.
I recently shared some tips for sending lightsabers back to your Walt Disney World Resort hotel room or shipping to your home in this answer, which I hope you find helpful.
Have an amazing time with your grandsons this January, Cindy! Please come back and see us if you have any further questions as you count down and dream.
May The Force Be With You,
Robyn
