Were planning our first visit to WDW in Oct, were driving frm Ottawa Ont Canada, which will be an adventure itself. We plan on staying for 7 dys We have a 14yr old & a 4 yr old. LF advise on weather, eating, character meeting & 4 yr olds and water

Hi Caroline!  You have a lot of questions and if I can't answer them all please don't hesitate to ask the panel again!

It will truly be a driving adventure for your family but what a wonderful way to see the country!  The weather in October is variable with the early part quite warm still and the end starting to see the cooler temperatures.  The average highs this month are 85 degrees and the lows 65 degrees.  It is normally not a rainy month but you never know!

Dining at Disney is a great treat as they have so many wonderful restaurants to choose from.  I suggest you plan your itinerary and then choose a restaurant in the parks or nearby resorts when you will be visiting.  EPCOT has many to choose from in their World Showcase and you can select according to your family's tastes.  It is best to make reservations as soon as possible so you are not disappointed if they become full. You can do this by calling 407-939-3463 180 days before your arrival.  Review all the park and resort choices by clicking HERE.  Since you have a four year old you might want to add at least one character dining experience and I would recommend Chef Mickey at the Contemporary resort.

The best non dining character greeting is at EPCOT in Future World.  It is inside and in the building to the right of the large fountain.  Here you can meet and greet about 7 or 8 main Disney characters getting pictures and autographs from each.
