We are planning our first visit to WDW in June. Our kids are 14, 10 and 8. We did the dining plan and I am trying to map out our "reservation meals". I am so lost. We want high impact, visual restaurants. Help! Prefer they are not signature.

    Hi Heidi,

This might be one of my favorite questions!  I love the restaurants at Walt Disney World, specifically because there are so many that meet your description.  I'm not sure if your kids would be into dining with characters.  I know our family is, even with a 13, 11 and 5 year old.  It's not just the 5 year old who enjoys the experience.  Character breakfasts are a fun way to start the day!  I definitely have a couple favorites:

    • Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom features Winnie the Pooh and friends
    • Donald's Safari Breakfast at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom features Mickey, Donald and pals
    • 1900 Park Fare at Grand Floridian has Pooh, Alice, Mary Poppins and Mad Hatter - the Mad Hatter is hysterical

If character dining isn't your thing, don't worry.  There are plenty of restaurants that serve up fun as well as great food:

    • Biergarten - It's perpetual Oktoberfest at this buffet style restaurant
    • Teppan Edo - hibachi style dining is always fun.
    • 50s Prime Time Cafe - just like you're in June Cleaver's kitchen. Try the PB&J milkshake.
    • Whispering Canyon Cafe - the all-you-can eat skillet and bottomless milkshakes will fill you up, and the cast member antics will make you smile.  This is my kids' favorite restaurant.
    • 'Ohana - great Polynesian fun at this restaurant
    • Sci-Fi Dine In - Kids love sitting in cars watching clips from old sci-fi movies.  It's like being at a real drive-in

Hope this helps get you started.  Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
