Planning our first visit wdw (fam of 5) , thinking about cabins at FW, if we rent a car for the week can we use it in the resort or do we have to use the internal bus system/golf carts?

    Howdy Jocelyn,

Hangin' at the Fort has become somewhat of a tradition in my family and the Cabins feel like our home away from home!  Nothing beats kicking back and relaxing amidst the rugged Florida "wilderness" with the magic of the parks just a short boat ride away!  There's something really special about this resort and I just know my family will continue to come "home" to the Fort for years to come!

We are one of those families that just has to have a car no matter where we go, so we always rent one at the airport before heading over to Walt Disney World.  You are permitted to have a vehicle in Fort Wilderness and each cabin has a designated parking area.  That said, there are some areas that are restricted to golf-cart and foot traffic only, so you would need to walk or bus to these areas.  The restricted areas include the Settlement, the Stables, and the Marina.  If you decide, for example, that you'd like to hop aboard the water taxi for a relaxing boat ride to the Magic Kingdom, you would need to take the internal bus to the Settlement Depot if you didn't rent a golf cart!

The only place within the resort I've ever driven, is over to the Meadow Trading Post, but parking spaces are very limited and there is a 15 minute limit!  We always rent a golf cart, but it's certainly not necessary!

    Best Wishes,
