    We are planning a first vacation to WDW for 7 nights in February and have a 6 year old son. We have looked at staying at the Contemporary and think it has a lot to offer. We have also looked at the FQPO. Is the extra money worth the deluxe hotel?

    Deciding on a Disney resort can be a tough decision, and you have picked two resorts that are equally wonderful. Disney's Contemporary Resort has an ideal location since you can walk to the Magic Kingdom. Also, having the monorail literally going right through the center of the resort is pure magic, especially to a young child.  You can also easily take the monorail to Epcot (you need to change monorails at the Ticket and Transportation Center). The rooms are also some of the largest on property, and you can even have rooms with views of the Magic Kingdom. There are also 3 table service restaurants at the resort, including a character meal. 

    Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter has a lovely charm about it with its theming.  As a moderate resort, the rooms will be smaller, but I think your family would be quite comfortable.  You won't have a balcony or patio, but you can still have lovely views out of your window depending on the type of room you book.  You can also enjoy taking a boat to Downtown Disney.  If you plan on using Disney transportation, your only option is buses from the resort that are about 25-30 minute bus rides. There is only one restaurant at the resort.

    So, you really need to weigh the pros and cons for your family. If you like the close proximity to the Magic Kingdom and would prefer more dining options, you may prefer spending the extra money to stay at Disney's Contemporary Resort. However, if you think you won't spend much time in your room, you may find Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter a better investment since it still has all of the Disney perks and is a lovely resort.
